iZombie "Flight of the Living Dead" (REVIEW)

This time it's personal, while the brains Liv made a snack of have been people more-so removed from her home life, shit gets personal when the stiff this week turns out to be Liv's former sorority sister, Holly. The fact that she's someone Liv knew personally changes the dynamic of her romp though memories and emotions of the dead.

The "death-of-the-week" occured thanks to a freak skydiving accident. Holly was a thrill seeker, testing her luck in from base jumping to rock climbing. Though they had a bit of a falling out, Liv is hit hard when she realized that Holly was the one met with an unfortunate end this week. Convinced there has to be more to this death than just an accident (which is usually the case) Liv chows down on Holly's brains and inherits her penchant for the dangerous.

After watching several episodes of iZombie already, the strength behind Rose McIver's portrayal of Liv has come clear. Going from a sociopath to a bubbly thrill seeker at the drop of a hat, the multiple personalities of Olivia Moore have come front and center over the course of the series.

The introduction of a new dead-head playing prospective love interest for Liv behind to flesh out the series more. Though the show has maintained its "case of the week" formula since the pilot episode, details peppered in between each episode's case further the ongoing drama of the living dead.

After the slightly dull case of last week's episode, the show managed to turn itself around and in my opinion was the best episode of iZombie to date. With the case taking a turn for the personal, Rose McIver was able to further flex her acting chops while exploring a character once again far removed from her actual personality.

The episode saw neither hide nor hair of the villainous Blaine, but his reach was felt. It begs to ponder whether this new zombie love interest for Liv is involved with Blaine's operation, and in Major's investigation of the missing kids, he gets his ass seriously handed to him by one of Blaine's zombie muscle.

With more threads connecting each episode to the overarching main story, it's exciting to see just where iZombie will go next. Here's hoping tonight's episode delivers.
